Role Overview
The Vice President Global SPA and Wellness serves as the global business owner for all onboard SPA, wellness, beauty, and fitness operations across the Cruise Division of MSC Group, encompassing MSC Cruises (Contemporary & Premium) and Explora Journeys (Luxury).
This role carries full accountability for SPA and treatment programs, fitness and thermal areas, salon services, wellness retail, medical aesthetics where applicable, and future digital wellness offerings. The VP ensures that standards of luxury wellness, service rituals, therapeutic excellence, and holistic wellbeing philosophies are thoroughly integrated, particularly for Explora Journeys, while maintaining scalable, brand-differentiated wellness frameworks across the fleet.
The VP is responsible for defining the long-term global SPA and wellness vision, driving commercial performance, enhancing guest satisfaction, and evolving wellness concepts that distinguish MSC Group’s Cruise Division across contemporary, premium, and luxury segments.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial Leadership
- Define and lead the global SPA and wellness strategy across contemporary, premium, and luxury brands, ensuring alignment with differentiated guest profiles and brand positioning.
- Act as the business owner for Global SPA and Wellness, with explicit accountability for luxury wellness concepts and standards.
- Develop and oversee the end-to-end commercial roadmap, encompassing treatment architecture, pricing strategy, promotions, capacity optimization, and the overall guest journey design.
- Lead strategic negotiations with SPA operators, wellness partners, medical aesthetics providers (where permitted), product brands, and equipment suppliers.
- Drive growth in high-margin and premium wellness categories, including signature treatments, medical aesthetics, fitness and longevity programs, wellness retail, and personalized wellbeing journeys.
- Create scalable yet brand-distinct SPA and wellness frameworks that allow selective deployment of premium and luxury concepts across MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys.
Operational and Brand Excellence
- Oversee SPA operations fleet-wide to ensure consistent service delivery, treatment quality, hygiene standards, and guest satisfaction.
- Define service standards, therapist certification requirements, training programs, and performance benchmarks across all SPA formats.
- Ensure luxury wellness excellence for Explora Journeys, focusing on service rituals, therapist conduct, holistic programming, privacy standards, and immersive wellness environments.
- Introduce tier-specific wellness concepts, signature and luxury rituals, experiential programming, and destination-inspired treatments.
- Prepare the fleet for new builds and dry docks, involving SPA layout design, equipment selection, CAPEX planning, and concept activation.
Financial Management
- Own the complete P&L for SPA and Wellness across all Cruise Division brands, focusing on annual budgets, revenue targets, margin improvement, and cost control.
- Optimize therapist productivity, treatment mix, pricing discipline, retail attachment rates, staffing models, and concession economics.
- Utilize advanced analytics to drive demand forecasting, yield management, guest segmentation, booking optimization, and treatment performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Hotel Operations, Medical, Fitness, Retail, F&B, Shorex, Digital, Finance, and Newbuild teams to integrate wellness into the overall guest experience.
- Collaborate with CRM and Digital teams on pre-cruise wellness engagement, onboard booking optimization, and personalized wellness journeys.
- Align SPA offerings with itinerary, destination, and onboard programming to maximize relevance, differentiation, and revenue.
Leadership & Organisational Development
- Lead a global HQ and fleet SPA and wellness organization encompassing strategy, operations, training, and partner management.
- Cultivate a culture of guest-centric service excellence, luxury wellness stewardship, commercial discipline, and continuous innovation.
- Mentor senior leaders and strengthen capabilities across SPA operations, luxury wellness concept development, and data-driven performance management.
Requirements
- 15+ years of senior leadership experience in SPA, wellness, hospitality, cruise, or multi-site service businesses.
- Proven success in managing complex P&Ls and driving profitability in service-led environments.
- Deep expertise in SPA operations, wellness programming, service quality management, and luxury guest experience standards.
- Strong experience in managing third-party operators, concession models, or global vendor partnerships.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and cross-functional stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively and operate in a fast-paced international environment.
