Transgenic Specialist / Transgenic Specialistess

ETH Zürich - September 30, 2025

Department of Health Sciences and Technology

The Laboratory of Regenerative and Muscle Biology at ETH Zurich is seeking a part-time Animal Transgenic Specialist. Our lab is dedicated to studying the regenerative potential of stem cells, particularly focusing on pluripotent and skeletal muscle stem cells, utilizing advanced transgenic models.

Under the leadership of Prof. Ori Bar-Nur, our multidisciplinary group of scientists aims to translate fundamental research findings into therapeutically applicable treatments. We operate at the intersection of molecular and cellular biology, gene and cell-based therapies, and tissue engineering. Through our projects, we employ transgenesis extensively to enhance our understanding of biological processes and to develop potential new therapies for muscle diseases.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Generation of chimeric rodents from embryonic stem cells (ESCs) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) through blastocyst injection or morula aggregation.
  • Creation of transgenic mice and rats using pronuclear injection, electroporation, or AAV transduction of DNA and CRISPR-Cas9 constructs.
  • Embryo and sperm cryopreservation.
  • In vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
  • Reproductive surgical interventions including harvesting oocytes and embryos, sperm collection, and vasectomy.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a transgenic animal unit, capable of performing various outlined responsibilities.
  • Certification in LTK-M1 or an equivalent permit to work with laboratory rodents is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English, as the role involves daily interactions with international PhD students and postdoctoral research fellows.
  • A collaborative spirit, strong organizational skills, and reliability.
