Position: Maintenance Team Lead (Mechanic, Electric, & Automation)

The Maintenance Team Lead for mechanics, electric, and automation is responsible for leading and overseeing the maintenance operations during the afternoon and evening at our Lengnau facility.

This role involves supervising a team of specialists in mechanics and utilities, instrumentation and electrics, and automation. The Team Lead ensures efficient operation and maintenance of equipment while maintaining compliance with GMP standards. This position is vital for troubleshooting issues, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring seamless collaboration among teams during the day. The team will also be responsible for afternoon and evening support of manufacturing operations, addressing any breakdowns that affect production batches.

Please note: This role is specifically for afternoon and evening activities from 13:00 – 22:00, Monday to Friday.

Position Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Lead Afternoon and Evening Maintenance Team: Supervise and guide a team of 4 direct reports, including Mechanical & Utilities Specialists, Instrumentation & Electrics Specialist, and Automation Specialist.
  • Support Manufacturing Operations: Provide assistance for manufacturing operations, addressing any equipment breakdowns that affect production batches to ensure minimal disruption.
  • Ensure Equipment Reliability: Oversee the maintenance and repair of all equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability, including process equipment, utilities, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues: Quickly respond to and troubleshoot equipment issues that arise during afternoon and evening activities to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Coordinate with Other Departments: Collaborate closely with other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and align with production schedules and priorities.
  • Maintain Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with GMP standards and safety regulations, documenting work performed and maintaining accurate records.
  • Support Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance maintenance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Train and Develop Team: Provide training and development opportunities for team members, conducting regular performance reviews and offering constructive feedback.
  • Manage Team Handover: Ensure a smooth transition between the morning and afternoon/evening teams by documenting and communicating ongoing issues, completed tasks, and upcoming priorities.

Quality Assurance

  • Adhere to general cGMP rules, Quality policies, procedures, and instructions set forth by the Quality function and endorsed by site management.
  • Actively contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and deviation reporting and follow-up.

Health, Safety, and Environment (EHSS)

  • Adhere to general safety policies, procedures, and instructions set forth by the EHSS functions.
  • Actively participate in safety initiatives, near-miss reporting, and follow-up.

Position Qualifications / Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience & Competences

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in maintenance management, preferably in a GMP manufacturing facility.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising maintenance teams and managing complex maintenance operations.
  • Proven track record of ensuring equipment reliability and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Strong understanding of GMP standards and maintenance practices.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Outstanding troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
