Staff Frontend Engineer

SMG Swiss Marketplace Group AG - June 2, 2026

Company Description

Welcome to SMG Swiss Marketplace Group! SMG is a pioneering network of online marketplaces and a leading European digital company that simplifies people’s lives with forward-looking products. We operate leading marketplaces across real estate, automotive, general classifieds, and finance & insurance. We’re driven by our values: Better Together, Aim High, and Act Responsibly.

Job Description

As a Staff Frontend Engineer, you'll be a hands-on technical leader with company-level impact across our Real Estate vertical. You’ll shape and evolve the frontend architecture powering our portals, create shared frontend solutions adopted by multiple teams, and orchestrate complex cross-team initiatives.

Meet the Team!

At SMG, our strength lies in our people. Meet your potential manager:

  • Yuliya Zvolskaya - Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

At a high level, you will:

  • Lead the evolution of our Real Estate frontend architecture to support future requirements, defining and improving SLAs/SLOs, and anticipating ripple effects across systems together with other senior engineers and principals.
  • Design and create shared frontend libraries, components, and tooling (e.g. design system, performance tooling) that are widely used by internal teams, focusing on pragmatic, reusable solutions and driving their adoption.
  • Orchestrate multi-system refactors and migrations (e.g. framework upgrades, cross-product harmonization), breaking them down into digestible, plannable pieces and coordinating with engineers, product, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a go-to person across teams and locations for frontend topics, influencing how we build web experiences across the Real Estate organization.
  • Mentor and coach other engineers through structured mentorship, pairing, and feedback, helping them grow their skills and close identified skill gaps in the organization.
  • Model a healthy feedback culture, helping people navigate tough conversations and conflicts in a constructive, blameless way.
  • Challenge and improve team and cross-team processes, suggesting changes that enhance focus, quality, and speed when necessary.

While you will still write plenty of code, your impact will be measured just as much by how you multiply the effectiveness of others as by your individual output.

Your Day-to-Day

  • You'll be part of a regular product team, dividing your time between product delivery and staff responsibilities based on current needs and priorities.
  • Innovate, design, implement, and deploy frontend-focused engineering solutions for our Real Estate products, from discovery to production.
  • Own the end-to-end technical vision for key user journeys like Homegate and Immoscout24, focusing on performance, accessibility, UX quality, and reliability.
  • Lead cross-team frontend initiatives (e.g. shared design system improvements, cross-brand UI harmonization, performance budgets, or observability patterns), and identify cross-cutting technical bottlenecks such as performance drags in core user journeys.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to shape technical strategy and trade-offs for new features and platform work.
  • Partner with DevX to co-develop engineering 'blueprints' and health scorecards, setting a gold standard for quality in our frontend repositories.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and introduce new frontend technologies and approaches, documenting findings and driving adoption where they make sense.
  • Guide and review the work of other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and informal coaching.
  • Contribute to and facilitate guilds, tech chats, and other cross-team knowledge-sharing formats.
  • Promote a culture of high-quality engineering: testing, monitoring, observability, security, and operational excellence.

Our Tech Stack

You’ll work primarily on the frontend while collaborating with full-stack and backend engineers:

  • Frontend: Mainly Vue.js, with some React, both using TypeScript as the language of choice. We run a mix of client-side, server-side, pre-rendered, and hybrid web apps.
  • Backend: Node.js and TypeScript, utilizing a serverless and microservices architecture in a cloud-based environment using AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, S3, and more).
  • Monitoring & Observability: Primarily Datadog, plus logging and alerting best practices.
  • AI & Tooling: We actively adopt the latest developments in AI technology and expect you to embrace innovation offered by large language models in your daily work.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience with Vue.js or similar frameworks.
  • Proven track record of implementing and maintaining automated frontend testing using tools such as Jest, Vitest, and/or Cypress.
  • Solid hands-on experience building production applications with Vue 3.
  • Experience collaborating with designers using Figma.
  • Strong experience building and evolving large-scale frontend applications in modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Proven technical leadership experience: leading complex initiatives, aligning multiple stakeholders, and taking responsibility from design through rollout and iteration.
  • Deep understanding of modern CI/CD for frontend, including automated release strategies and feature flagging in a microfrontend environment.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and driving adoption of shared frontend solutions (e.g. design system components, shared libraries, cross-cutting tooling).
  • Experience influencing and supporting multiple teams or a whole product area.
  • Excellent English communication skills, spoken and written. You can explain complex topics clearly to different audiences in an international team setting.

We Value Engineers Who:

  • Thrive in collaborative environments and are true team players.
  • Have a growth mindset and are curious; we love growing together.
  • Are passionate about frontend architecture and building & scaling cloud-based solutions.
  • Are open to change and propose pragmatic solutions, not just point out problems.
  • Challenge the status quo when it improves outcomes for users or the organization.
  • Are creative, adaptable, and enjoy solving complex, ambiguous problems.

You Will Stand Out If You Have:

  • Significant professional experience in software development, including time in senior/lead roles.
  • Deep experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (Vue.js, React, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility, and SEO considerations for large user-facing sites.
  • Prior working experience with APIs and microservices and how frontend apps best integrate with them.
  • Prior working experience with cloud service providers like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with server-side rendering/hybrid rendering patterns and edge/CDN optimization.
  • Experience integrating frontends with AWS Lambda.

What Do We Offer?

  • 6 weeks of holidays per year (plus the option to buy 10 extra days).
  • 40-hour work week with flexitime (capped at 45 hours).
  • A hybrid work setup with flexibility to work remotely.
  • Generous parental leave: 18 weeks for maternity and 6 weeks for paternity/adoption.
  • SBB Half-Fare Card and first-class travel between SMG offices in Switzerland.
  • Gender-neutral pay and transparent career paths.
  • Choose your gear: Mac or Windows laptop, and iPhone, Samsung, or Pixel mobile.
  • An inclusive and innovative environment where your voice matters.
