Position Overview

The Neuroscience group in Basel, Switzerland, seeks an experienced Senior Scientist with a strong background in Cell and Molecular Biology of Microglia. By joining our neuroinflammation team, the successful candidate will be actively involved in the implementation and application of neuro-glial co-culture systems. As part of Novartis Biomedical Research, you will engage with a global network of talented and dedicated scientists who work collaboratively to discover and develop treatments for millions of patients suffering from neurological diseases.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct complex cell culture experiments in accordance with established protocols and team direction.
  • Implement neuroglial co-cultures to explore and counteract pathophysiological mechanisms.
  • Collaborate in establishing and applying phenotypic and functional readouts for neuronal health.
  • Design and optimize strategies and protocols for in vitro modeling of neuroinflammation.
  • Evaluate novel targets and characterize compounds that modulate neuroinflammatory pathways.
  • Present findings at internal and external scientific forums, project meetings, and conferences.

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree in Biology, Bioengineering, or a completed apprenticeship as a laboratory technician in a Life Sciences discipline, along with 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Prior expertise in neuroscience related drug discovery and/or myeloid cell modeling, including proficiency in fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, and high-throughput data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in human iPSC differentiation to neuronal cell types, glial cells, and/or practical knowledge in primary rodent neuronal cell culturing conditions.
  • Passion for fundamental exploratory research and an insatiable curiosity.
  • Strong collaboration skills and effective communication as a team player.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written).
