Pi Imaging Technology is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in the creation of single-photon detector arrays that boast high sensitivity and low noise levels. Our technology empowers partners to introduce groundbreaking products used by end-users engaged in cutting-edge scientific endeavors within the life sciences, such as confocal microscopy and fluorescence (FLIM) imaging, as well as in quantum information applications. Our innovative solutions are based on single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs), which are designed using standard semiconductor technology, facilitating photon-counting arrays with megapixel resolutions and adaptable architectures. Furthermore, these arrays are seamlessly integrated into plug-and-play products, supported by both FPGA firmware and C++ software, ensuring a smooth operational experience for our end-users.

Position Description

In this role, you will become an integral member of a small electronics engineering team, undertaking a diverse array of tasks centered around the development of new and existing products. Notably, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing FPGA firmware and software for high-speed serial communication interfaces.
  • Designing PCBs for high-speed communication/storage solutions along with high-bandwidth connections for the detector arrays.
  • Verifying firmware and software, addressing bugs as reported by end-users.
  • Performing initial bring-up and characterization of new detectors.
  • Procuring components and assembly services for prototypes.
  • Assembling proof-of-concept/prototype units.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in electronics engineering or a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Required Skills

  • Ability to efficiently execute multiple tasks independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in C++, VHDL, and Altium Designer.
  • Expertise in designing FPGA firmware in VHDL under tight timing constraints.
  • Experience with high-speed serial communication protocols (e.g., Xilinx Aurora, PCI-E).
  • Familiarity with test and measurement requirements.
  • Proficient in data analysis software such as Python or similar tools.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Understanding of statistics (e.g., Poisson and exponential distributions).
  • Familiarity with semiconductor technology.
  • Knowledge of the testing requirements necessary to validate semiconductor chips.
