About the Role

At Swiss Re, we create value by enabling confident Nat Cat decisions. Utilizing our proprietary modelling technology for natural catastrophe perils, we integrate the latest scientific insights into underwriting decision-making, collaborating closely with our peers in re/insurance underwriting to address all aspects of natural catastrophe risk.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and communicate the next generation of Nat Cat models and integrated costing capabilities for perils/regions lacking probabilistic models, working closely with Underwriting teams.
  • Enhance underwriting partnerships and the Nat Cat underwriting costing journey by incorporating elements that strengthen underwriting decisions and improve costing efficiency through automated solutions, ensuring transparency on assumptions throughout the costing process.
  • Develop and maintain Nat Cat analytics to enhance our understanding of Nat Cat portfolio costing performance and assist property portfolio owners in building well-informed strategies for portfolio steering.
  • Contribute to cross-regional and cross-functional projects with a strong business mindset.
  • Establish yourself as the point of contact for underwriting inquiries in EMEA.
  • Engage with clients, investors, and media on topics related to Swiss Re's broader Nat Cat underwriting initiatives.

About the Team

The Nat Cat UW & Analytics team is part of the Cat Perils EMEA & Methods team, one of three regional teams in the Cat Perils department. We focus on Swiss Re’s global natural catastrophe risk assessment and aim to enhance underwriting processes and analytics for improved portfolio costing performance, thereby facilitating confident decision-making in Nat Cat underwriting.

About You

We are looking for a colleague with exceptional social skills who contributes to a collaborative team spirit. You demonstrate initiative and a keen interest in interdisciplinary work. As a fast learner eager to take on responsibility, you approach challenges with curiosity and flexibility.

Technical Skills and Education

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in natural sciences, actuarial science, or engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in developing natural catastrophe probabilistic models/costing tools, Nat Cat model validation, and/or pricing actuary in the re/insurance industry.
  • Experience in re-insurance Property Underwriting.
  • Strong mathematical, statistical, analytical, and conceptual skills.
  • Proficient in programming languages (e.g., Python, Matlab, R, Power BI).
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent verbal and written English proficiency.
  • Additionally advantageous: Actuarial training and project/product management skills related to Nat Cat costing tools.
