About Studio Maria Conen

The Chair of Architecture and Housing at ETH Zürich views architecture as an ecological, social, and material practice that shapes how we live together. Our focus is on climate adaptation, resource cycles, and the relational nature of housing within landscapes, water, and infrastructure.

We develop architecture as a mediating discipline where spatial, material, and environmental logics converge. Through design and research, we conceptualize housing as an interconnected, multi-scalar construct that embodies regenerative design, circular processes, and the interplay between natural and built environments. A key focus area is water as a spatial and formative driver, accompanied by an ongoing exploration of form to address these challenges.

Through our teaching, research, and collaborative efforts, we promote experimental design practices rooted in observation, making, and critical reflection, striving to create precise and impactful designs for contemporary living.
