Job Purpose

The role of the SAT Invigilator is to ensure that assessments are conducted according to required regulations. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities
  • Maintaining the security of examination materials before, during, and after exams
  • Preventing candidate malpractice and administrative failures

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

While prior invigilation experience is not required, training for the role will be provided. Invigilators are expected to:

  • Declare any previous invigilation experience or current maladministration/malpractice sanctions
  • Confirm availability in advance of examination periods
  • Understand and follow confidentiality and security requirements throughout the invigilation process

An ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Reliability and flexibility during exam periods
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Teamwork capabilities
  • Confidence and reassuring presence for candidates
  • Basic IT skills (e.g., familiarity with email and mobile messaging)
  • A commitment to understanding examination board regulations

Main Duties

The SAT Invigilator’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Conducting examinations in accordance with the College Board and Aiglon's regulations
  • Upholding the integrity and security of the external examination/assessment process

Before Examinations

  • Report to and be briefed by the SAT Coordinator prior to each exam session
  • Set up examination rooms according to requirements
  • Admit candidates under formal conditions
  • Ensure proper conduct of examinations
  • Identify and seat candidates as required
  • Distribute the correct examination materials and provide instructions
  • Manage candidate questions and start the examinations

During Examinations

  • Supervise and observe candidates at all times
  • Minimize disruption in examination rooms
  • Handle emergencies or irregularities effectively
  • Record and report any incidents or irregularities

After Examinations

  • Instruct candidates to finish and collect examination scripts
  • Dismiss candidates from the examination room
  • Verify candidates’ names on scripts against the attendance register
  • Securely return all examination scripts and materials to the SAT Coordinator

Other Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Participate in online invigilator training as required
  • Assist the SAT Coordinator with tasks for the smooth running of examinations
  • Follow all school policies, particularly those related to safeguarding children and young people
  • Uphold the ethos of the School and its Guiding Principles at all times
