Position Overview
As part of Apollo, ISGI serves as the specialized investment office for large, strategic, and sophisticated insurance and pension clients. These clients are directing over €15 billion towards "Return Seeking" (RS) assets managed by ISGI, which include a diverse array of evolving private debt and equity-like investments. Our strategy prioritizes a relative value-oriented approach focused on consistent outperformance and capital preservation while adhering to local regulatory constraints.
Investments span a broad spectrum of credit, real assets, and equity-like instruments from various jurisdictions and markets worldwide. The ISGI RS team in Zurich leads these initiatives, offering support to insurance clients in portfolio management. This includes selecting investments, providing analytics and reporting, and delivering educational material aimed at optimizing Solvency II compliance.
This Analyst role focuses on integrating with the team responsible for the origination and management of private investments. The ideal candidate will embody a mindset dedicated to continually enhancing the economic, insightful, and service-oriented contributions of the team through expertise, strong client relationships, and a collaborative approach.
Primary Responsibilities
The role emphasizes private investments that are:
- Originated by Apollo across various markets and jurisdictions.
- Designed to be placed on regulated insurance and pension funds' balance sheets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and presenting summaries for investors on new deals specifically originated by Apollo to aid in their decision-making processes.
- Defending investment decisions and coordinating necessary governance for efficient approvals.
- Preparing investment and reporting materials needed to implement investments within the regulatory framework, including compliance with the Solvency II prudent person principle.
- Understanding, preparing, and adjusting investor reports and providing ad hoc responses for both internal management information and client regulatory reporting.
- Applying and developing analytics to track and project capital activity, returns, forecasting, capital consumption, drawdown risk, diversification, and other metrics essential for constructing portfolios of private investments.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in investment functions within a large insurance company, insurance asset management firm, investment bank (focusing on insurance solutions or structuring), a consulting firm specializing in insurance regulation or law, or an alternative asset management group.
- Essential previous experience with alternative investments/private investments.
- Understanding of fixed income principles, capital markets, and private origination across asset-backed and corporate finance.
- Familiarity with Solvency II regulations, including Standard Formula calculations for private assets and experience in documenting investment decisions in alignment with these frameworks, particularly regarding the Prudent Person Principle (PPP).
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic, consistently willing to go the extra mile.
- Ability to perform under pressure, multi-task, and respond quickly and decisively to requests.
- Solid proficiency in SQL, VBA, Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint for efficient data manipulation, portfolio reporting, and modeling, specifically related to private investment portfolios.
- Excellent academic background in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
- Fluency in English, German, and one other European language.
