Summary
The Neuroscience Department within BioMedical Research at Novartis Pharma AG in Basel, Switzerland, is seeking a motivated and experienced Research or Senior Scientist. This individual will play a hands-on role within the in vivo neuroinflammation team, contributing to several research projects aimed at developing new therapies for neurodegenerative disorders. Your work has the potential to improve the lives of millions of patients worldwide suffering from these conditions.
The primary focus of this position will be on novel neuroimmune cell pathways, aiming to elucidate the mechanisms at the molecular, cellular, and ex vivo/in vivo levels.
As a member of our team, you will work independently while closely collaborating with other members of the Neurosciences group to plan, execute, document, analyze, and interpret experiments.
Please note that this is a part-time job share position with a maximum of 70% working time.
About the Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, conducting, and managing independent in vivo studies focused on neuroinflammatory pathways.
- Establishing new in vivo models for neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative diseases.
- Performing and interpreting ex vivo analyses with an emphasis on histology, biochemistry, FACS, and molecular biology.
- Developing and executing in vitro cellular assays to assess inflammatory processes.
- Presenting data clearly and contextualizing it within complex frameworks.
- Supporting general laboratory duties.
Your Profile
- University degree (MSc) or equivalent qualification, preferably in neuroscience, immunology, or cell biology. PhD candidates will not be considered for this position.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant lab-based work experience in either an industrial or academic setting.
- Prior experience in the neuroscience drug discovery area is a plus.
- Strong expertise in in vivo rodent work, including various dosing routes, surgical techniques, stereotactic brain injections, behavioral assessments, and perfusion. Relevant animal experiment training (e.g., LTK1) is available.
- Experience with various histological methods, microscopy, and image analysis.
- Competence in RNA/DNA technologies and biochemistry methods, such as qPCR and Western blotting.
- Solid understanding of immunology and immunological techniques like flow cytometry, HTRF, and ELISA.
- Familiarity with cell culture methods, including primary cells and iPSCs.
- Ability to evaluate large datasets with strong documentation skills and interest in utilizing new informatics analysis tools.
- Eagerness to learn and integrate new techniques and concepts, present results within the lab, utilize literature data, engage in exploratory activities, and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Demonstrated scientific curiosity, initiative, commitment, flexibility, and strong organizational skills.
- A track record of successful collaborations, effective communication with diverse stakeholders, and being a strong team player and networker.
- Excellent oral and written English skills.
