The wide bandgap of nitrides enables a broad range of high-power and high-frequency applications, spanning from 5G telecom to advanced optoelectronic and, recently, quantum devices. The central goal of this project is to delve into the fundamentals of the electronic structure of nitride systems, which includes their band structure, Fermi surface, electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions, and interfacial band offsets. These investigations will utilize soft X-ray angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) to provide insights that can significantly enhance the performance and functionality of nitride-based devices.
Experiments will take place at the Advanced Resonant Spectroscopies (ADRESS) beamline of the Swiss Light Source, a leading soft X-ray ARPES facility renowned for its emphasis on interface and heterostructure systems, as well as at other synchrotron facilities globally. Additionally, you will engage in time-resolved ARPES research at the European XFEL. Your responsibilities will also encompass computational modeling of the electronic structure of nitride systems. You will be an integral part of a vibrant scientific community at PSI, exploring solid-state systems using various complementary techniques such as ultraviolet ARPES, muon spectroscopy, X-ray, and neutron scattering. This project offers extensive collaboration opportunities, both within PSI and with external users of PSI's research facilities, alongside close interactions with theoretical groups during data analysis and interpretation.
Our institution is built on interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic collaboration. You will benefit from systematic on-the-job training, alongside opportunities for personal development and a strong vocational training culture. We are committed to providing support for work-life balance, enabling you to effectively combine your professional responsibilities with family life or personal interests through modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure.
Your employment contract is initially limited to 2 years, with the possibility of an extension for one additional year.
