Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated professional to provide holistic, evidence-based care to a private individual, focusing on her needs in a positive, person-centered manner. Currently, the individual faces challenges associated with a dementia diagnosis, age-related frailties, and any other health co-morbidities that may arise.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, develop, and implement comprehensive care programs; offer advice; and maintain associated records, either manually or digitally.
  • Execute nursing procedures as required, adhering to clinical guidelines.
  • Provide clinical supervision to other staff members.

The successful candidate will direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to promote best practices in the care of the individual with dementia. In the absence of the team leader, you will ensure the effective delivery of care and address any issues with the line manager.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Swiss or EU passport holder, or valid Swiss working permit.
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or European/Swiss equivalent.
  • Nursing degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of Best Practice in Dementia Training or the willingness to undertake it.
  • Willingness to pursue specific dementia training, such as Best Practice in Dementia Care, conducted in English.
  • Additional qualifications related to dementia topics, including stress and distress training, meaningful activity, and Sage and Thyme.
  • Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
  • Commitment to developing dementia knowledge as part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), independently or through the organization.
  • Specialist dementia qualification or additional studies in relevant areas.
  • Knowledge of behavior as communication and familiarity with non-pharmacological interventions and strategies.
  • Experience in End of Life Care, with the ability to develop clinical skills for managing co-morbidities and end-of-life care.

Qualifications / Additional Requirements

  • Certifications as a Moving and Handling Trainer.
  • Skills in Beauty or Massage Therapy.
  • Experience in facilitating Meaningful Activities.

Language Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. Ideally, English should be your first language.
  • Excellent written communication skills in English.
  • Understanding of the local dialect of Central Scotland, as effective communication is vital in dementia care.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with individuals with dementia is required.

Personal Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Familiarity with basic technology.
  • Teaching ability for junior staff, family, and other professionals.
  • Must identify as female.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Commitment to working a shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
  • Willingness to travel with the client within the UK.
  • Availability for unsociable hours, including sleepover arrangements, alternating nights with other staff members during shifts.
  • Potentially accompany the client to various venues as part of your duties.
  • Conduct yourself in a manner appropriate to the client's social standing.
  • Maintain confidentiality in alignment with NMC requirements and organizational policies, with a separate confidentiality agreement provided.
  • Understand the cultural context relevant to the client and their family, as dementia progresses, to minimize stress and distress.
  • Housekeeping duties are also an essential aspect of this position.
