Hohliebi Programs GmbH - July 4, 2026

Mathematics Teacher and Residential Educator

We are seeking a dedicated Mathematics Teacher for a small, international, residential winter-term program for students aged 12-14 in the scenic Bernese Oberland, running from January through March 2027.

In addition to teaching mathematics and providing French tutorials, the successful candidate will serve as a mentor, residential advisor, and academic coach. This role involves offering guidance and feedback on students’ written work while supporting their personal and social development. Faculty will also mentor students in the preparation of The Swiss Report, a central interdisciplinary research and writing project within the program. A strong knowledge of Switzerland, including Swiss history, geography, and European history, is highly desirable.

Position Overview

This is a fully residential position. The candidate will reside in the boys’ dormitory and actively participate in school life, which includes:

  • Pastoral supervision of students
  • Dining with students and assuming supervisory responsibilities during mealtimes
  • Evening, weekend, and overnight responsibilities
  • Leadership of student and outdoor activities
  • Oversight of student chores and daily routines
  • Chaperoning all field trips and excursions

Faculty will also lead and participate in routine student duties, such as kitchen clean-up, bathroom cleaning, vacuuming, and maintaining shared spaces. Working in the kitchen, they will guide student dish crews and assist students in preparing breakfasts and Sunday brunch. Accommodation will be provided within the boys’ dormitory, featuring shared living facilities.

Program Policies

The program enforces a strict no-cell-phone and no-internet policy for students. The educational approach is intentionally low-tech, emphasizing books, paper, discussion, and direct human interaction over digital devices. Faculty are expected to embrace and model this culture while maintaining an active and visible presence throughout the day and evening, engaging with students in both structured and informal settings.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about immersive residential education and comfortable working within an environment that prioritizes structure, character formation, respect, personal responsibility, and active participation in community life. A mature and grounded presence, a high degree of independence, and the ability to establish positive relationships with adolescents while maintaining clear boundaries are essential qualities.

Experience in boarding schools, residential education, summer camps, outdoor programs, or other immersive youth initiatives is strongly preferred. Familiarity with the U.S. education system is highly desirable, as most of our students are American and hail from schools in the United States. This background aids in effective communication with families and sending schools and provides insight into the academic expectations and experiences of students. Additionally, an understanding of the academic, social, and developmental needs of early adolescents is crucial.
