Your Profile

We are seeking a dynamic professional with a background as a former Master Mariner, possessing experience on oil carriers, or an experienced surveyor, inspector, or superintendent with substantial field exposure. A strong knowledge of chemistry, product specifications, and blending operations is essential. The ideal candidate will have:

What You Will Do

As a Loss Controller, you will be an integral part of a global team that supports over 250 trading operators and traders worldwide. Your role will encompass providing technical expertise and operational support on all quantity and quality (Q&Q) aspects of crude oil, petroleum products, petrochemicals, LPG, biofuels, and bio feedstocks. You will play a crucial part in crude loss analysis for the Refining & Chemicals business, contributing directly to the safeguarding of the company's financial interests by minimizing cargo losses and ensuring product quality.

Your Responsibilities

In this position, your responsibilities will encompass various roles such as Cargo Loss Controller, Claim Analyst Q&Q, Blending Advisor, and Product Quality Surveyor, including:

Field Expertise

  • Inspecting and evaluating storage terminals used by trading and shipping to assess operational practices and safety performance, helping to minimize quantity, quality, and safety risks.
  • Conducting storage technical visits and field missions on behalf of traders or management to monitor transportation logistics.
  • Attending critical loading and discharging operations to ensure compliance with international standards and optimize outcomes.

Operational Support

  • Providing daily technical advice on Q&Q issues during loading/unloading, transport, and complex operations such as tank preparation and STS operations.
  • Monitoring cargo quantity and quality throughout the logistics chain, ensuring compliance with contractual specifications, and managing inspection companies and superintendents.
  • Maintaining strong communication with operators and traders to anticipate issues and propose operational solutions.
  • Overseeing the entire blending process from simulations to final execution, in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Participating in technical decisions regarding the use of additives and product modifications.

Inspection & Superintendent Companies Coordination

  • Monitoring performance of inspection and superintendent companies, recommending improvements, and updating evaluation tools.
  • Supporting management in developing relationships and establishing agreements with loss control service providers.
  • Assisting in the preparation of tenders or RFPs for inspection services.

Knowledge Maintenance & Networking

  • Staying informed on the latest international rules, guidelines, and standards related to quality testing and quantity measurement.
  • Providing internal training sessions to maintain a consistent baseline of Loss Control knowledge across trading operations.
  • Accompanying trading operators on field missions to support their development.
  • Contributing to internal analyses or statistical reporting on product movements and quality trends.
  • Representing TotalEnergies in relevant technical committees and industry bodies.

Claims Handling

  • Defending the company's interests on Q&Q related claims with trading partners and service providers.
  • Preparing, analyzing, processing, and administering crude claims.
  • Supporting operators in insurance claim procedures where applicable.

Context and Environment

In this role, you will interact continuously with trading operators, traders, managers, shipping teams, terminal personnel, superintendents, and inspection companies. You will operate in a fast-paced trading environment that demands rapid decision-making and strong communication skills.

The position requires:

  • Frequent and sometimes short notice international travel.
  • Availability to intervene outside normal working hours (night, weekend, holidays) when immediate support is required.
  • The ability to deliver precise technical advice during time-critical operations that impact commercial outcomes.
