The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) is a National Research Infrastructure co-founded by EPFL and ETH Zurich, forming a vital part of the ETH Domain. Our mission is to support academic labs, hospitals, industry, and public sector stakeholders — including both cantonal and federal administrations — throughout their data science journey, spanning from data collection and management to machine learning, AI, and industrialization.

Our large multidisciplinary team of professionals is spread across three locations: Lausanne, Zurich, and Villigen. At SDSC, we offer expertise and services across various domains, including health and biomedical sciences, energy and sustainability, climate and environment, as well as large-scale scientific infrastructures.

About the Internship

We are excited to announce an internship opportunity within our Research Team at SDSC, where you will contribute to the development of our AI-assisted design tool, AIXD. This tool is currently being enhanced with a plugin for Virtual Reality (VR) exploration, aimed at improving interpretability and understanding of design possibilities and limitations. Your role will involve:

• Conducting software development of the AIXD toolbox by implementing new features.
• Investigating new embedding methods to capture the structure and organization of the design space.
• Implementing new visualization approaches to aid in comprehending the data and AIXD results.
• Carrying out standard debugging and documentation tasks for the AIXD toolbox.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• A BSc or MSc in Computer Science or related fields, with proven experience in software development.
• Experience with Python, PyTorch, and UI frameworks such as Flask.
• Expertise in machine learning and data science.
• The ability to present complex results through appealing and informative visualizations.
