Indirect Tax Specialist Position

We are recruiting on behalf of a global retail supply chain organization for the permanent position of Indirect Tax Specialist (100%).

Start Date: As soon as possible

Contract: Permanent position

Location: Pratteln, Switzerland

Workload: 100% (40 hours/week)

Work Model: Hybrid – minimum 50% on-site presence in Pratteln

Position Overview

This role presents a unique opportunity to join an international finance team, focusing on indirect tax compliance within a renowned global retail supply chain organization. As an Indirect Tax Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with indirect tax obligations across various international jurisdictions, including VAT/GST, Intrastat, and more. Your contributions will support operational units and finance stakeholders, as well as audits, projects, and continuous process improvements.

This position is tailored for junior to early professional candidates eager to deepen their technical expertise in indirect tax compliance, rather than moving into people management roles. It is well-suited for professionals who thrive in structured environments, value international exposure, and enjoy collaboration with multiple stakeholders in a dynamic, in-house setting.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure indirect tax compliance for assigned countries by preparing, reviewing, and submitting indirect tax returns (VAT/GST, Intrastat, etc.).
  • Review and analyze indirect tax compliance data across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Support and participate in multi-country indirect tax audits and address requests from local tax authorities.
  • Manage additional indirect tax topics, including those related to food products, where applicable.
  • Determine VAT rates for assigned countries.
  • Assist internal stakeholders with indirect tax matters (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting, Financial Controlling, etc.).
  • Participate in and support indirect tax-related projects.
  • Ensure internal processes are implemented, updated, and continuously improved.
  • Prepare reconciliations between indirect tax filings, ERP systems, and other reporting tools.
  • Support payment and refund processes.
  • Initiate and contribute to process improvements.
  • Perform other indirect tax-related tasks as assigned by the Indirect Tax Manager.

Your Profile

You are a detail-oriented and analytical tax professional who thrives in an international, fast-paced environment. You excel at managing multiple deadlines, navigating complex data, and fostering collaboration across functions. You seek a long-term in-house role that values stability, technical depth, and continuous learning over rapid career advancement.

Must-Haves

  • Relevant university degree (BSc/MSc) in economics, business administration, law, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on professional experience in indirect tax / VAT compliance.
  • Experience in indirect tax compliance across multiple countries (purely domestic or Switzerland-only VAT experience is insufficient).
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, or submitting indirect tax returns (VAT/GST).
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency in managing multiple information systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented mindset and strong communication skills.
  • Flexible, positive attitude, and a growth mindset.
  • Willing and able to work at least 50% on-site in Pratteln (rolling average).
  • Eligible to work in Switzerland (Swiss or EU/EFTA citizenship preferred).
  • Residing in Switzerland or within a reasonable commuting distance (including cross-border FR/DE).

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in a multinational or shared service environment.
  • Exposure to supply chain, logistics, or retail-related tax topics.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Experience assisting with indirect tax audits.
  • Knowledge of indirect tax topics related to food products.
