Position Available at the Central Animal Facility (CAF)

The Central Animal Facility (CAF) is the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. We are excited to announce an opening for a leadership role within our team.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, overseeing processes, finances, and personnel.
• Provide veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
• Supervise the hygiene and monitoring program.
• Manage the animal stock utilizing our database system.
• Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday care.
• Write, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Advise researchers on genetically modified mouse breeding and research procedures.
• Ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, university directives, and process specifications.
• Participate in building renovation projects.
• Support the ECLAM residency program and internal educational initiatives.

Qualifications

• A doctorate in veterinary medicine with a specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
• Practical experience in breeding genetically modified models; experience with fish or zebrafish is a plus.
• Proven management experience and leadership within complex structures.
• Team-oriented with strong goal-setting abilities and excellent communication skills.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in German is advantageous.
