Global Head of Media Relations
The Global Head of Media Relations is responsible for developing and implementing EFG International’s media strategy. This role focuses on actively driving the bank’s earned media presence and enhancing its positioning while managing a robust network of journalists.
The incumbent will oversee financial communications in close collaboration with the CEO, CFO, and Investor Relations, ensuring the drafting and management of essential documents such as media releases, Q&As, presentations, and briefing materials. Additionally, issues management and crisis communications play a vital role in this strategic position, requiring the preparation of playbooks, media statements, and contributions to various processes and internal reviews.
Main Responsibilities
- Further develop and execute EFG’s earned media strategy, enhancing the bank’s media presence and external profile in Switzerland and key business regions.
- Build and nurture relationships with relevant journalists and media outlets, shaping EFG’s external perception and strengthening its position as a top 10 Swiss private bank.
- Position EFG’s equity story within earned media and enhance credibility; support the visibility of senior management, including the Chair, CEO, and regional business heads while advising them on media relations topics.
- Manage a professional and high-quality Media Relations office, ensuring timely and compliant responses to all media inquiries.
- Lead and execute corporate-level external communications projects, including financial communications for fiscal year (FY) and half-year (HY) earnings, business updates, and ad-hoc media releases.
- Promote and position EFG’s business and investment expertise in the media, collaborating closely with the Investment & Client Solutions unit to identify suitable content.
- Act as the primary spokesperson and media contact for the bank.
- Oversee issues management and crisis communications; develop and implement contingency communication measures while advising internal stakeholders and senior management.
- Ensure effective media monitoring, conducting daily and weekly media reviews and summaries; introduce automated solutions to enhance efficiency on critical communications topics and potential reputational risks.
- Lead all global media activities, including PR agency management in business regions, in full compliance with all internal guidelines.
- Ensure seamless execution and appropriate controlling, with timely reporting and adherence to relevant rules and regulations; apply strong cost management and ensure the budget is respected.
Main Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
- Five or more years of experience in a similar role within the financial services industry; prior experience in a Corporate Communications function at a listed company is preferred.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English (UK); proficiency in German; knowledge of Italian or French is advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience in issues management and crisis communications.
- A well-established journalist network and a strong understanding of media operations.
- Ability to conceptualize a media strategy that supports the bank’s overall positioning and communication goals.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on developing and delivering innovative solutions.
- A high degree of flexibility and personal commitment.
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office tools.
