Summary
The International Medical Affairs (MA) team serves as the voice of international markets, focusing on our top priority regions and addressing their needs throughout pre-launch, launch, lifecycle management, and in-market activities. This role is pivotal for key strategic areas within the International Therapeutic Area (TA) and supports the Head of International Medical Affairs CRM in significant leadership forums. The position involves providing aligned input from priority international markets into the Integrated Evidence Plan (IEP) and overseeing the implementation of scientific communications and medical education strategies along with relevant medical standards. Moreover, it entails planning and executing the medical/scientific engagement strategy, ensuring the delivery of strategic pre-launch and launch medical activities that cater to patient, clinical, access, and value needs within healthcare systems.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the International Medical Affairs team focusing on a specific disease area (Renal), including managing international medical directors and any temporary medical directors assigned to the team.
Oversee the launch strategy for medical affairs in key international countries, including innovative tactics such as research/population health and integrated evidence plans, ensuring strong delivery based on country needs.
Advise on plans for evidence generation, medical science liaison (MSL) strategy, medical education programs, and the development of a Medical Expert network.
Co-develop and implement innovative education and scientific communication plans for external stakeholders globally.
Track financials to ensure timely and cost-effective medical activity development and execution.
Collaborate with Development and commercial teams to shape the launch portfolio, diversifying evidence to enhance access and impact clinical practice.
Represent International Medical Affairs regarding priority portfolios, engaging with internal and external audiences across various collaborations.
Advocate for patient voices internally and assess factors relevant to informed patient decision-making, ensuring compliance and support for Patient Access programs.
Provide strategic direction for reimbursement and market-access strategies.
Shape Field Medical Strategies, guiding the development and execution of Field Medical plans and initiatives, and ensure proactive medical advice for asset lifecycle management.
Essential Requirements:
MD (preferred), or PhD/PharmD in Health Sciences; additional specialist qualifications are advantageous.
7+ years of experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry focusing on Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Development.
Strategic mindset and ability to build credibility and influence across a variety of stakeholders within a matrix organization.
Deep understanding of healthcare systems and the ability to lead in an agile environment across disease areas.
Capability to understand unmet medical needs and generate appropriate evidence, utilizing innovative communication formats for dissemination.
Strong collaborative skills across functions and markets, acting as a peer expert to external stakeholders.
Adept at navigating shared outcomes and cross-business accountabilities, demonstrating critical thinking skills.
Proven track record of delivering high-quality medical affairs projects within set timelines.
Desirable Requirements:
Significant medical affairs pre-launch and launch experience in major markets (e.g., Germany, China, Japan), preferably in renal disease.
Experience in developing and executing best-in-class processes at scale.
