Job Position: R&D Engineer for Educational Products Development and Space Engineer

Location: QZabre AG, Zürich, Switzerland

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quantum Technology Specialist to join QZabre in developing innovative educational products focused on quantum technologies. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of quantum technologies, particularly in solid-state physics and qubit control, and will have significant research experience in these areas.

The successful candidate will lead a development project for an educational kit based on NV centers in diamond, aimed at demonstrating crystallography, the quantization of atomic levels via level spectroscopy, and qubit manipulation on the Bloch Sphere. Prior experience in education is a mandatory requirement.

In addition, the candidate will spearhead the development of high-sensitivity magnetometers for applications in the space domain. This role necessitates direct experience in designing, assembling, and testing optical and optomechanical systems intended for space applications. Familiarity with multiple suppliers and knowledge of the testing required for optical systems in space—including performance testing, reliability testing, and environmental qualification—are essential. The candidate should also be well-versed in laser technology and optics, with experience using Zeemax or similar software.

This position offers an open-ended contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educational Product Development:
    • Lead the creation of educational resources, including learning modules and experimental setups, to teach quantum physics, with an emphasis on NV centers in diamond.
    • Design and implement hands-on educational tools that enable students and researchers to explore quantum technologies in a practical setting.
    • Collaborate closely with developers and sales teams to refine the product and initiate its commercialization.
  • Space Industry R&D:
    • Utilize expertise in quantum technologies to advance research in the development of magnetometers for use in the space industry, specifically for satellites.
    • Collaborate with aerospace, satellite, and space research teams to apply quantum sensing technologies in real-world space applications.
    • Develop and present research findings to stakeholders, including industry partners in the space sector, and contribute to the development of space missions.

Preferred Skills

  • Direct experience working with space agencies or in space-related industries.
  • Knowledge of Quantum Physics with hands-on experience in solid-state physics.
  • Familiarity with current trends and challenges in quantum computing and quantum sensing.
  • Strong motivation to develop hands-on educational tools that simplify the demonstration of Quantum Physics.
