Job Opportunity: Power Electronics and Certification Engineer (80 - 100%)
We are seeking a highly skilled Power Electronics and Certification Engineer (m/f/d) to support our Product Compliance Team for a minimum of 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The expected start date is April 1, 2026, or as negotiated.
About Us
In the "Drives" division, ABB specializes in producing drives for high-power applications, including sectors such as shipbuilding. Our product range includes frequency converters and power converters, operating within a power range of 0.18 kW to 100 MW, positioning them as medium-voltage products.
Main Responsibilities
- Act as the technical expert engineer for product certification projects involving MV Frequency Converters.
- Clarify and manage product requirements related to applicable standards or directives as provided by the Customer and/or Product Manager.
- Collaborate with external Notified Bodies such as TÜV SÜD, UL, and CSA.
- Provide insights related to relevant standards (IEC, UL, CSA, etc.).
- Obtain and validate final documentation from external notified bodies.
- Coordinate activities with external notified bodies (e.g., TÜV SÜD, UL).
- Draft and/or approve test specifications in accordance with relevant standards.
- Observe tests according to specifications and review and approve test reports.
- Prepare and support documentation for external notified bodies.
- Assist the notified bodies with final documentation requirements.
- Define system integration tests according to product standards.
- Collect critical components for electrical safety (inclusive of UL, APQP, etc.).
- Coordinate implementation of product changes with the Release Manager and various departments, including project engineering, manufacturing, testing, sourcing, and R&D.
- Oversee activities across different tools within the MV Drives organization to promote high levels of product automation.
- Manage project certification activities for various compliance projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in power electrical engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in compliance engineering.
- Strong sense of responsibility and commitment.
- Self-motivated and driven personality.
- Project management skills.
- Proficiency in Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Familiarity with mandatory standards: IEC 61800-5-1, UL347A, UL61800-5-1, CSA, ABS Marine, DNV GL, APQP, LVD (2014/35/EU), MD (2006/42/EC), EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU and 2015/862/EU).
- Knowledge of ABB’s Products is a plus (ABB Internal training).
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in German is highly recommended but not mandatory.

- This is a senior-level position.
- Option for extension: Yes.
- For an 80% workload, flexibility can be discussed with the hiring manager.
- The initial phase will require onsite presence; post-probation, a hybrid model (1-2 days remote work and 3-4 days onsite) will be implemented.
