Role Overview

The Corp. Fermentation and Chocolate Expert will play a pivotal role in accelerating innovation in the fermentation field, leveraging technical expertise in fermentation, volatile compound analysis, and extensive manufacturing experience from bean to bar.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and support R&D projects while creating knowledge through trials in fermentation and various stages of the chocolate manufacturing process:
    • Plan and prepare for trials
    • Conduct and evaluate trials
    • Master analytical measurements
    • Write papers for publication, if necessary
    • Scale-up processes from pilot plants to full factories
  • Conduct scientific research and contribute to knowledge generation

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree in Food Science
  • PhD in Food Science, with a thesis focused on fermentation
  • Expertise in analytical techniques for volatile compound analysis
  • Experience in bean to bar chocolate production is essential

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge and at least 2-3 years of practical lab-scale fermentation experience, including upstream conditions and biotransformation of resulting compounds
  • Strong background in chemistry, biotechnology, and laboratory techniques
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for conveying complex technical information
  • Proficient in data analysis software for processing, interpreting, and visualizing complex datasets
  • Solid understanding of sensory evaluation techniques
  • Highly self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Customer-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
  • Passionate about start-ups and ingredient science
  • Strategic thinker with a capacity to learn quickly

Language Requirements

  • Fluent in English – written and spoken
  • German is a plus

Future Development

Flexibility to relocate to other Lindt & Sprüngli production sites in the future is required.
