Community Manager / Community Manageress

ETH Zürich - April 28, 2025

ETH Student Project House (SPH)

At SPH, we inspire and empower students to cultivate a mindset of makers and innovators. We believe that by exploring their ideas and developing their own projects, students gain valuable hands-on experience and learn important skills for their future. This is why we’ve created an ecosystem where students (Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral students) are encouraged to explore, ideate, build prototypes, and refine them.

Our interdisciplinary team of thirty people provides comprehensive support to students who wish to pursue extracurricular projects of various types and scales. We design and manage facilities such as co-working, ideation, and event spaces, as well as a makerspace that gives students access to the tools and equipment they need to prototype. Additionally, we support project teams with personal coaching, workshops, and a diverse expert network. Our goal is to accompany students on their journey by inspiring them to start, seek diverse perspectives, explore the real needs behind an idea, work collaboratively, think big, embrace failure, pivot, and overcome obstacles.

Job Opportunity: Community Manager

We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Community Manager to join our inspiring environment at ETH Zürich, filled with 3D printers, ideation equipment, and a vibrant community. All communication is conducted in English, and our extracurricular events and training sessions typically take place in the late afternoon and evening.

As a Community Manager, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Building and maintaining an active, engaged, supportive, and inclusive community across all user groups, including project members and makerspace users.
  • Organizing community events to foster engagement and connection.
  • Developing a comprehensive concept for community building, along with measurable approaches, including in-depth research on best practices in community building and science-based peer-to-peer learning.
  • Setting up and maintaining an efficient internal communication strategy within the community.
  • Creating and coordinating an active and engaged alumni network.
  • Overseeing and coordinating all activities at SPH that relate to community building, actively exchanging insights with other units and contributing to cross-functional internal projects.

Your Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • A university degree in Social Sciences, Communication, Psychology, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of experience in community building, creating peer-to-peer learning environments, and/or developing educational programs.
  • Familiarity with conducting research and analysis of best practices.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • A collaborative spirit, with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Comfort and confidence in public speaking and community engagement.
  • Self-motivated and able to effectively manage competing priorities within a team setting.

Note: Research has shown that women and individuals from marginalized groups are often less likely to apply unless they meet all criteria. If you believe you’re qualified but may not meet every single requirement, we encourage you to submit an application.
