The Laboratory of Regenerative and Muscle Biology at ETH Zurich, in collaboration with the Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ), offers an exciting opportunity for a bioinformatician to work on omics data.

Project Background

The Laboratory of Regenerative and Muscle Biology (RMB), led by Prof. Ori Bar-Nur, is a dynamic and collaborative team of scientists dedicated to translating basic research findings into therapeutically applicable treatments. The lab focuses on the intersection of molecular and cellular biology, gene- and cell-based therapies, and tissue engineering, utilizing multiomics tools to enhance our understanding of biological processes.

The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is a premier core facility of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, leveraging the latest omics technologies for biomolecular research and personalized medicine. The FGCZ Genome Informatics group specializes in supporting researchers with the analysis and interpretation of large-scale datasets, particularly next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, covering raw data processing, high-performance computing, statistical evaluation, interpretation, and integrated analysis. Our team operates in an open-source software environment, establishing state-of-the-art data analysis concepts and algorithms.

Job Description

The bioinformatician will play a key role in a variety of basic and translational research projects within the RMB lab. The position requires close collaboration with an international research team, demanding high levels of motivation, scientific curiosity, and a collaborative spirit. As part of the FGCZ Genome Informatics group, the successful candidate will deliver bioinformatics services to support ongoing projects. This includes performing data analyses using the group's existing infrastructure and developing additional analysis workflows, with a particular emphasis on single-cell and spatial transcriptomics applications. Previous experience with these assays is highly desirable.

Profile

  • PhD degree in bioinformatics or a related field
  • Proficient in NGS data analysis with excellent scripting skills
  • In-depth knowledge of R/Bioconductor and/or Python
  • Working experience with GNU/Linux operating systems
  • Enthusiastic about statistical and bioinformatics data analysis
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented approach
  • Good understanding of biological research questions
  • Service-oriented and adaptable to the evolving field of bioinformatics
  • Advanced proficiency in English
